Lama Mocogno is a small village in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines offering tranquility, relaxation and local traditions all year round; it has something for everyone, from nature, to culture and to sport, as well as the many different flavours of our local gastronomy: from “borlenghi” (local pancakes) to “crescentine” (small flatbreads), to polenta and typical products such as mushrooms, chestnuts and …… not least, the “King of Cheeses”, Parmigiano Reggiano.
The village stands at 842 metres above sea level, in a picturesque setting overlooking the valleys of the Rivers Scoltenna and Mocogno, with sweeping views over Mount Cimone.
Among its architectural treasures, the Montecuccoli Tower in Montecenere and the Devil’s Bridge (which lies between Lama Mocogno, Polinago and Pavullo) both spring to mind. The latter is the unusual result of natural erosion.
The pride and joy of Lama Mocogno’s summertime sports facilities is undoubtedly the Swimming Centre, located in a peaceful setting just a few minutes away from the village, and surrounded by greenery. The swimming centre has three pools, one for adults, up to three metres deep; one for children with its two slides much loved by children and adults alike. There is also a whirlpool area within the children’s pool. The swimming centre also offers two well-equipped bars; a large, sandy beach area with children’s play area; a beach volley court, tennis courts, table tennis and a large fitness area.
In addition, in the nearby surroundings, it is possible to go trekking, mountain-biking, orienteering, Nordic walking, horse-riding, fishing and practice the traditional sport of “ruzzolone” (which involves rolling a wooden disc along a road or purpose-built track); and, not to forget, “Le Piane di Mocogno” with its “Piane avventura” offering archery, a climbing wall and tubing. In winter the “Piane” becomes a real paradise for fans of cross-country skiing, Alpine skiing, ski touring and snow-shoeing.
The Piana Amorotti Cross-country Ski Centre is the ski resort with the highest number of cross-country pistes in the Modena Apennines, for a total of over 40 kms. The resort has a modern, functional service centre; the structure, with over 200 square metres of space, offers two changing rooms equipped with toilet facilities and showers. It has a ski-waxing room and ticket office which also serves as an information point. There is also a weather station and two web cams which allow you to know the weather in real time.
The Piane di Mocogno Ski Area offers alpine skiing with various pistes including a beginner slope, “Poggio”, equipped with covered magic carpet, and the beginners’ slope, “Duca”, with a skilift. With its beginners’ pistes, local Ski School and automatic lifts for bobsleighs, sleds, snowtubing and baby park, it is the ideal place for families with small children.
